A Conversation with John Merrow

December 5 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join Enoch Pratt Free Library as they welcome John Merrow to the State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.

Former PBS education correspondent John Merrow will speak about his new book ADDICTED TO REFORM: A 12-Step Program to Rescue Public Education in which he argues that current school reform efforts focus too heavily on symptoms rather than on the root cause of our problems: an antiquated approach to schooling using outdated standards like graduation rates and testing. Merrow proposes a learner-centered system instead, drawing on his four-decade-long reporting career at NPRand PBS and his experience both as a high school teacher and college professor. Dr. LaMarr D. Shields, President of the Cambio Group, will introduce John Merrow and moderate the Q&A following his talk.
